Without wildcard support this is only useful for the most simple of renamng tasks.

I have a large collection of TV episodes on my media server. In order to allow proper scraping I needed to rename all of the episodes in a very particular way. I bought this app (shuld have tried the free version I guess) and it does what I want as far as giving me the names I needed but it COPIES the files rather than just renaming them. Now these are large video files so you can imagine how much disk activity that equals. Seems kinda dumb to not just rename the file but actually make a copy. Probably made the app easy to write but limits its usefulness.

This is a total waste of time and money... You cant delete chararcters easly It gives you the entire string of where the file is located blocking the actual name of the file in the left windows you can see the name of the file with the error etc... etc,.... VERY FRUSTRATING you should have done your homework prior to using this app. The APP store should have never have approved. HRRRR!R!R!R!R!R!!!!!!!.....

Great for any one too OCD who cant stand having bunch of files with non consistent name.

At first, its not at all easy to figure out what you are supposed to do when you first launch the program. I just wanted to use a conventional system to rename some of my files without having to manually do it. Once you actually figure out what you are supposed to do, its very confusing and you are stuck having to trial and error before you get any success. The program also has many faults like program errors which make the program crash/quit unexpectedly. I can definitely see why this app only costs $1.99. Really needs some work… Its sad that there are a lot of programs that can do this but why do they have to cost so much? What a scam!

its a well laid out interface.. the test option shows you how your data will be renamed. advanced options are handy and give you a decent amount of options. for example if you have files vacation_number_1, vacation_number 1a, vacation_number1b .. using the advanced option, you an rename these to Spain001 by replacing vacation_number with the string "Spain" an the programs will increment the number on each successive rename. cheap and cool.

The interface is clean, it is easy to Drang & Drop folders containing files to rename. The Advanced choices are easy to find, and use (without reading the manual). I few issues with the GUI not refreshing after a rename operation, but otherwise very good app. Better than renaming manually, or via a Shell Script

It boggles my mind that there is not an out of box way to batch rename files with this new mac I bought. I batch rename constantly. Lots of frustration with this thing. Anyway I renamed 2000 photos in 3 min. easy easy. thx for easing my frustration a bit today

This app doesnt hold your hand, but it does have functionality to accomplish almost anything you need. For $0.99, its a steal. If you need your hand held, buy one of those $15 renamer apps.

Bought this on sale when replacing an out-of-date copy of A Better Finder Rename 9. Does all I wanted except deleting chars from position x for length of n. Should be good for years of use.

worst most un-friendly confusing re-namer I found. Steps are not clear and not easy to enter. Why do I have a pull down ‘ please choose one ‘ box for ‘ append, creation date etc but no obvious place to put my rename request without clicking this, clicking that, go here, sit on this, bite this, etc etc….. A name changing app is so simple ……’ What is the new name ‘ ? Need a number sequence then # symbol will do…and a box to let you start at 1 or 30 or whatever, simple….not a confusing app that I just deleted from my Mac….

It took abit but they finally solved the problem of not being able to save and load the actions. Working great now.

Had a few issues with it not working properly recently, but it seems to be working with the new version. Saves so much time renaming all my photo files to a new numbering sequence.

Ignore the early reviews since a lot of improvements have been made to the app over the years. This app is a life-saver and easy to use too.

App is very convenient and simple in use. Nice interface. Unfortunately, veeery unstable - and the support doesn’t respond to my emails. Maybe after update they will repair the bugs.

Or just doesn’t work. It’s supposed to use RegEx (Regular Expressions) like wildcards “*” and “?” but those don’t work. Also doesn’t recognize spaces when renaming. If you type a spacebar at he end of the new name, it deletes it. I just want to replace a “.” with a space. HELLO? This is BASIC stuff and I’ve been using file renamers long before I got a Mac.

This is one of those simple but brilliant tools that you don’t even think you need until you get in a jam and realize that you DO (and quick!). While OSX does have a native renaming function - it is bare bones to say the least, and leaves much to be desired. Quick File Renamer is super-intuitive, easy to navigate, and can perform both simple and crazy complex tasks with relative ease. I work in sound design, so renaming audio files so that I can locate what I need is crucial. Also some programs I use will only support x amount of characters in a file name, so this saves the day there as well. I love that the program even has a little preview window so you can see what the changes will actually look like before you commit. Hats off to the developers! Just get it and keep in your utility arsenal, because your need for it will pop up way more often than you think - I promise!

Just about ANY renaming strategy you can think of is available here and VERY simple to use. Rename entire folders of files in a snap according your your spec. One of my most used production workflow apps.
